Notes: This Blue Whale was sighted in the Bay of Fundy in August of 1996. The Blue is quite rare in the bay as the Blue was hunted to the brink of extinction, some populations may never recover. Stats: The Blue is one of the largest and gentlest animals ever to have lived on earth. Adults average between 23-28m; some are reported at 30m or longer. Blues average around 110 tons; some at 190 tons. Females are slightly larger than males. You can ID a blue by their enormous size, blue-gray mottled colour, tiny, stubby fin set far back, broad, flattened, U-shaped head, huge blowhole splash guard, extremely thick tail stock, 9m high blow and they may show flukes on diving.

Notes: The Blue whale sighted in the Bay of Fundy August of 1996. The Blue whale is quite rare in the Bay of Fundy, this is mostly due to whaling, they were hunted close to extinction so that some populations may never recover. Notes: Picture of a Right whale by whale watching boat in 1996. The Right whale is abundant locally in the Bay of Fundy from July to September, although they are very endangered. The animal varies in length between 10.5-15m and may weigh as much as 45 tonnes. Right whales completely lack a dorsal fin. The body is black with white patches. The snout bears irregular craggy skin patches(callosities). The upper jaw is narrow and arched while the lower jaw is huge and bowed. The blow rarely exceeds 3m and is divided into a bushy "V" shape.
