Blue Whale - ccf5.Image.jpg - The Blue whale sighted in the Bay of Fundy August of 1996. The Blue whale is quite rare in the Bay of Fundy, this is mostly due to whaling, they were hunted close to extinction so that some populations may never recover. The Blue is one of the largest and gentlest animals ever to have lived on earth. Stats: Adult Blue whales average between 23-28m long; however, some whales have been reported at 30m or longer. Blue whales average around 110 tons; some reaching 190 tons. You can ID the Blue by their enormous size, blue-gray mottled colour, tiny stubby fin set far back, broad, flattened, U-shaped head, huge blowhole splashguard, extemely thick tail stock, 9m high blow and they may show flukes on diving.
