Humpback Whale - 8dbb.Image.jpg - Picture taken of humpback in August of 1995. The Humpback is common to the Bay of Fundy from June to October and tend to congregate coastally. The humpback is one of the more energetic of the large whales and is well known for their breaching, lobtailing and flipperslapping. They always put on a good show for the whale watchers. The males in the breeding grounds perform the longest and most complex songs known in the animal kingdom. They are the most easily ID'd and studied due to their black and white colouring on the undersides of their flukes which is like a human fingerprint. Stats: The adult humpback averages between 12-18m in length and may weigh more than 36 tonnes. They can be ID'd by their flukes which they ususally show before diving, their small bushy blow, long white flippers, the snout and lower jaw is covered with knobs, and they tend to be quite inquisitive.
